About

Biography

Jonathan Viner was born in 1976 in New York, and was raised up and down the east coast of the United States. After receiving a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1998, he moved to New York City where he continues to live today.

Viner’s work draws upon a broad range of cultural influences that include a variety of Old Masters, contemporary American pop culture, and psychology. A significant theme in his work is the exploration of power relationships, particularly as they relate to safety and danger.

The subtle hues and rich value ranges of Viner’s paintings help to create an atmosphere of palpable tension. While his subjects are carefully delineated, Viner tries to create works that leave the viewer space for contemplation.

STORE.VINERSTUDIO.COM

Viner created this online gallery to sell smaller and more affordable works directly to the collector. For now that means drawings and giclee prints.

Drawings

Viner carries a stack of hand torn sheets with him at all times. He sketches in the studio, at home, on the subway, in parks, in cafes, and in bars. He often finds his drawings more difficult to part with than his paintings.

Giclee Prints

Viner is very, very picky about how his work is presented to the world. Or maybe he's just a control freak. Either way, he decided to produce his own giclee prints from start to finish, so that he could guarantee that they are of the highest quality and accuracy possible. Viner is a foolish artist who cares more about quality than the bottom line. He spares no expense.
